This month, the TSB is expected to launch a new competition which offers up to £150k for projects which will radically rethink the design of products, components and/or services to reduce their environmental impact. The focus is likely to be on projects which address materials of high global environmental impact, or materials which are considered ‘critical.’ It is expected that projects should demonstrate a potential to significantly reduce environmental impact and be demonstrably informed by life cycle thinking. The proposed competition builds on the success of the previous feasibility study competitions ‘New Designs for a Circular Economy.’
The Materials Security Special Interest Group are organising a knowledge sharing event to support businesses to enter the new competition:

The event will showcase businesses that are successfully capitalising on opportunities generated by the move towards more resource efficient business models, such as Tatasteel, Interface and Kyocera, and will provide opportunity for open discussion and peer-to-peer learning. The keynote speaker, Andrew Morlet, Business Programme Lead at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, will discuss the economic opportunity presented by the circular economy.
