RDIs & SDAs at 100% Design
18 – 21September
Earls Court
The RSA will be showcasing it’s globally renowned RSA Student Design Programme which encourages students to apply their design skills to social issues, alongside the Royal Designer for Industry scheme, which awards designers who have achieved sustained design excellence. The display will be pairing 10 of the RSA Student Design Award projects from recent years with 10 RDIs who are blazing trails in connected areas

The RSA Student Design Awards Launch & Briefing Day

Please join us for the annual RSA Student Design Awards Launch and Briefing Day with Alice Rawsthorn on Wednesday, 18th September 2013. The day will begin with a lecture by esteemed design writer and critic, Alice Rawsthorn, followed by lunch and an introduction to the 2013/14 RSA Student Design Awards briefs in the afternoon.

Make It Better: designing products that don’t cost the Earth

Sophie Thomas, Co-Director of Design at the RSA will be joining Friends of the Earth, business leaders and designers for a lively debate on how companies can create products that protect people and the environment. What are the obstacles and opportunities? How can better information about products’ impacts, from field to factory to disposal, help designers?

As part of FairPhones pop-up shop, The Great Recovery will be holding a small workshop exploring the four different Circular Design models, and discussing how these can be applied to mobile phones and beyond.

Like the V&A, the RSA promotes design for social good. The RSA’s annual Student Design Awards challenge young designers to apply their skills to addressing 21st-century issues. Join us for an evening of discussion about why good design matters and how creativity can improve the world around us.

The Great Recovery: Talks with 100% Design
21 September, 12.15 – 13.00
Earls Court
The Great Recovery has been researching what goes into make our products and objects and what happens to them after they have lost their desirability, usefulness or workability and have entered the scrap heap. Sophie Thomas, project lead and Co-director of Design at the RSA, will be talking about the challenges of designing out waste with a live teardown team who will dissect some products, uncovering some surprises along the way.
