What’s in your mobile phone? Manchester, 23 October
The RSA’s Great Recovery at Design Manchester
The Shed, John Dalton West, Chester Street, Manchester M1 5GD
Thursday 23 October, 2pm – 5pm
Combining design with science, this hands on workshop as part of Design Manchester will introduce participants to the concept of designing for a Circular Economy, all through the medium of the humble mobile phone!
Following an introductory presentation on the RSA and the Great Recovery Project, a hands-on “tear down/design up” session (literally taking old mobile phones to bits) will guide participants through the deconstruction process of our consumer electronics, mapping out material sources and supply chains as we go.
Using the Great Recovery’s Four Design Models For A Circular Economy, we’ll explore the different options for re-design and start to prototype new systems and services that will maximize the value of materials, and reduce environmental impacts, which you can then apply to your relevant industry.
This workshop is suitable for all – students, professionals, designers, scientists, makers, tinkerers…
